AIK to Stay Well Within the Early Title Race as they Beat Mjällby

AIK will be aiming to keep the pressure on the league leaders Hacken in the Allsvenskan this weekend when they welcome ninth-placed Mjallby to the Friends Arena in what has been a fantastic first few weeks in the Swedish top flight.

Barely anything is separating sides from third down into seventh at the moment, and we could see drastic changes to the league table within one gameweek.

On the other hand, it does seem as if Hacken and AIK are beginning to make this an early two-horse race after the first few months with them now both three points clear of third place.

Sadly for AIK, however, they have played a game extra over Hacken, so despite the same points tally as the league leaders, there is a chance they can drop far away within the next few weeks, should they not get the win here and if other results go against them.

As of now, AIK have won seven games and lost just twice in the league from their 12 fixtures to date. On the other hand, despite just seven wins in their efforts at winning back the title for the first time in many years, they have also scored 18 times, which is the fourth-most in the division.

At the same time, however, they have also managed to let in 14 goals, which is just one less then 10th-placed Norrkoping.

AIK also haven't tasted victory since the end of May when they defeated Helsingborg, with the international break and a cancelled game with Orebro meaning they've played only two games within the past month. Worse yet, this also resulted in a 2-1 loss to Molde, and a 1-1 draw with Degerfors.

As for Mjallby, their winless run stretches even further back with them losing to Malmo and GIF Sundsvall since defeating Helsingborg back in early May. A draw with Varnamo and Kalmar has also come within this time too, which now means they sit ninth in the table and eight points behind the second-placed AIK already.

The problems are clear to see with Majallby too, as they have only won four games from 11 fixtures, while also scoring just 11 goals of their own as they have also let in 10. All in all, it’s been a very lacklustre first few months of the new season for them, and AIK remain the clear favourites to win here.

Forebet predicts a win for AIK here, and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
