We are just past the halfway point in the League of Ireland Premier Division as Derry City look to put up some sort of a fight in the title race just as Drogheda United merely look to move into seventh at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

It's been a very close season in the League of Ireland Premier Division for those third down to eighth, which these two clubs currently operate within.

In fact, 13 points separate Derry in third and Drogheda down in eighth, and depending on certain results, there could be many changes to this league table within one gameweek.

Derry have slipped up a bit in recent weeks, however, and as Shamrock Rovers continue to win, the gap between them and the top spot is now at nine points as their title race looks to be all but over already.

There is still a chance Raudri Higgins’ men can get the job done, but they cannot afford any more dropped points along the way.

At the same time, Derry have only just returned to winning ways in their recent victory over Cliftonville, but even this was in a friendly.

Back in the league, the club have gone six games without a win, as the likes of Sligo Rovers, Dundalk, and Shamrock Rovers have all taken three points off them.

At the same time, the third-placed side drew with Bohemians, St Patrick's Athletic, and Finn Harps within this time.

As for Drogheda, it's been yet another underwhelming season for them in Ireland's top tier. They've so far won only five of their 18 games in the league, but with them having a nine-point gap over Finn Harps in ninth and an 11-point distance from UCD at the foot of the table, there is still hope they can move forward and avoid relegation with relative ease.

The club are also in excellent form compared to their opposition here, with them coming off the back of a draw with Bohemians and a stunning 1-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers, thanks to Ryan Brennan's winner in the first half at United Park.

Prior to this, Drogheda also beat Finn Harps 3-1, which now means they've gone on their best run of form to date with seven points from the last nine available.

It still might not be enough to beat Derry, however, and Forebet predicts a win here for the home side and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
