The 2022 season hasn’t been anything special to this point for Atlanta United and Inter Miami. Neither side has been able to string together wins and both find themselves outside of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference playoff places.

Atlanta United are 11th in the East with 16 points from 13 games. Their last four matches all ended without a win and the front office in Atlanta is getting nervous that the side will fail to qualify for the postseason.

It was supposed to be a better season for Inter Miami, but like the previous two, it has already gone sideways. Phil Neville was supposed to turn Inter Miami into a top MLS team.

He hasn’t done that at all. The club’s billionaire owners have tried and failed to piece together a strong squad.

Inter Miami currently sit ninth in the Eastern table. There is hope that Inter Miami could spring to life, however. The Herons are one point off of the final playoff place in the East.

Their last four matches ended without defeat and Inter Miami are showing some positive form.

The last six games between these Eastern Conference rivals were split two wins apiece with two draws. The home team is unbeaten in the last five matches between them.

Earlier this season, Atlanta United and Inter Miami met in South Florida. The Herons won the match 2-1 thanks to a come from behind victory.

Atlanta United’s Ronaldo Cisneros scored in the 13th minute, but Inter Miami levelled just 15 minutes later through Leonardo Campana. Just after the hour mark, Campana turned provider as he set up Bryce Duke for the winner.

Inter Miami go into the game having taken eight points from the last 18 points on offer. They scored six times, but the defence allowed six goals in those six matches.

Atlanta United picked up five points from their last six games in MLS. They are on a three-game winless streak in the division. The Five Stripes conceded 11 times in the last six games, while scoring 11 goals.

United coach Gonzalo Pineda has a number of injured players heading into the fixture. Andrew Gutman, Miles Robinson, Brad Guzan, Dylan Castanheira, and Osvaldo Alonso are all ruled out for the game due to injuries. Midfielder Thiago Almada is also ruled out through suspension.

Neville could be without goalkeeper Nick Marsman. He has a back injury. Defender Brek Shea is a doubt due to a shoulder issue and defender Ian Fray has a torn ACL that will keep him out of the game.

The home team is unbeaten in five straight games between these teams. That trend should continue this weekend as Atlanta United and Inter Miami finish 1-1.
