There’s further action from the Irish top flight on Friday evening and it features this upcoming top of the table encounter in the Premier Division between 2nd placed Dundalk and the league leaders, Shamrock Rovers, at Oriel Park with the hosts looking to close an eight point gap on their visitors.

Victories against Shelbourne 2-1, Drogheda United 4-1, Bohemians 3-1 and a 1-0 win against St Patricks Athletic should hold the hosts in good stead as they prepare for the visit of the runaway leaders, Shamrock Rovers.
The bigger picture shows Dundalk have suffered just the two defeats out of their last 18 matches overall in the Irish top flight and includes nine wins in the process.
But one of their defeats was a 1-0 loss away at Shamrock Rovers.
Nevertheless, Dundalk have been tough to beat on home soil and are unbeaten in their last nine games.
Shamrock Rovers are currently enjoying an eight-point lead at the top of the Irish Premier Division ahead of Friday night’s visit to Oriel Park and they also bring a sustained solid sequence of results into this fixture, having lost just once in their last 15 matches overall.
With no fewer than 11 wins within this run of results, it’s easy to see why Shamrock Rovers sit at the summit of the Premier Division.
While results away from home have certainly also improved compared to the start of the season.
It had been a bit of an uncertain start away from home for Shamrock Rovers earlier in the term as they had failed to win any of their opening three away games, suffering losses at Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic along with being held to a draw at Friday night’s upcoming opponents, Dundalk.
However, Rovers have since clicked into gear as the visitors have lost just one further match on their travels in their subsequent seven outings and this includes picking up four wins with victories achieved over Finn Harps, Shelbourne, Bohemians and UCD respectively.
This rekindled run of form should therefore see Shamrock Rovers grab the three points in this clash.
