Denmark are top of the Nations League A Group 1 ahead of Monday’s match with Austria in Copenhagen. The Danes have six points from three group games and can improve their chances of winning the group with a victory over Austria.

The Austrians are two points behind Denmark ahead of Monday’s match. Austria have four points from three games and are coming off of a 1-1 draw with France.

Andreas Weimann’s first half goal gave Austria the lead but Kylian Mbappe scored in the dying minutes to save France’s blushes.

This will be the second match between Denmark and Austria at the Nations League this summer. The teams played just seven days ago in Vienna with Denmark claiming a 2-1 win.

The Danes scored first thanks to a 28th minute goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Austria’s Xaver Schlager levelled the score on 67 minutes.

With the game headed for a draw, Denmark’s Jens Stryger Larsen scored in the 84 minute to send the team to the win.

Austria outshot Denmark 17-8 in the first match. However, just one of their shots hit the target. Austria also tallied 55% of the game’s possession.

Manage Ralf Rangnick deployed the Austrian team in a 4-2-3-1 formation in the first match versus Denmark. Yet, Rangnick used a 4-4-2 formation against France. He is tinkering with the team and may not know the best formation.

Marko Arnautovic and Weimann were paired together in attack against France. He could use the duo once more with Marcelo Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer playing in midfield.

Rangnick used the duo as wide midfielders, but their pace wasn’t to get forward, rather it was to slow down France’s attack.

Attacking midfielder Christoph Baumgartner could return to the side. Max Wober could also start in defence once more. David Alaba has been a constant in the team thus far. Rangnick may need to rest the Real Madrid defender.

A 69th minute goal doomed Denmark to defeat against Croatia. The team had scored winning goals in the final six minutes of the two opening games. Denmark just couldn’t find a goal versus Croatia.

Kasper Hjulmand has alternated between a 4-2-3-1 formation and a 3-4-1-2 formation. He used the latter against Austria last time out. Regardless of the formation, Christian Eriksen is likely to play as the No. 10 with Hojbjerg playing as a defensive midfielder.

Denmark won 2-1 against Austria seven days ago. Although they are coming off of a loss to Croatia, the Danes should post another win versus Austria. It should finish 1-0 to Denmark at full-time.
