Slovakia Expected to go Top of the Group With a Narrow Win Over the Group Leaders Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan will meet Slovakia at the Astana Arena in what is the biggest game in League C action so far with the winner of this game set to go to the top of the group after the first set of fixtures this campaign.

As of now, Kazakhstan are sitting top of the table in League C Group 3 and they have won two and drawn one of their three games so far to end up on a commendable seven points early on.

Better yet, the nation have also only let in one goal and scored four as they drew with Belarus last time out with yet another goal from Abat Aimbetov in what was easily Kazakhstan’s worst performance in the Nations League so far.

Magomed Adiyev's men did manage to beat Slovakia at the Štadión Antona Malatinského last time out, with Aslan Darabayev scoring the game's only goal.

Stunningly, however, Kazakhstan only saw 24% of the ball as the Slovakians played with 76% of the action, although they had just one shot on target throughout the entire fixture.

Kazakhstan have been priding themselves on defensive resilience to this point in the Nations League, and on home soil here, they’re going to need all hands on deck with Slovakia aiming to move to the top of the division.

The group leaders did also ease past Azerbaijan in the first game of the new Nations League season, with Aimbetov scoring twice as he now has three goals in three games for his country in this competition.

Slovakia are also coming to the end of their first group of competitive fixtures without the likes of Marek Hamsik, following his retirement.

With his presence, things likely would have been different, with Pavel Hapal's men initially penciled in as the favourites to win this group quite comfortably with the likes of Milan Skriniar on their books too.

It’s been anything but simple, however, and with a 1-0 victory coming over Belarus and the same scoreline against Azerbaijan, the country have only netted twice so far in two games, as Slovakia also lost 1-0 to Kazakhstan.

Despite having so few chances in the recent game against Kazakhstan, Slovakia should have enough to get the job done here as they cannot afford to lose twice to them this early on and consequently see the gap at the top grow to four points.
