Friday night also brings us action from the relegation/promotion play-offs in the German domestic game which concerns 3 Liga outfit, Kaiserslautern, and their 2 Bundesliga counterparts, Dynamo Dresden, when the two teams face off in this 1st leg at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.
Kaiserslautern narrowly missed out on one of the automatic promotion spots in the 3 Liga as they finished in 3rd place and just a point adrift of the runners-up, Eintracht Braunschweig who gained promotion along with the 3 Liga title-winners, Magdeburg.

Although they just missed out on an automatic promotion berth, Kaiserslautern’s successful campaign was underpinned by a solid record on home turf at their Fritz-Walter-Stadion which saw the hosts lose just twice throughout the third tier campaign.
However, the hosts will be keen to at least avoid a fourth defeat on the trot overall as they have recently been handed losses against Wehen Wiesbaden, Borussia Dortmund B and Viktoria Koln respectively, but the bigger picture shows Kaiserslautern have lost just two of their last 26 home games.
Dynamo Dresden finished a very poor third from bottom in the 2 Bundesliga as the visitors found themselves eight points adrift of fourth from bottom outfit, Jahn Regensburg, so they duly take their place in the dreaded relegation play-off on Friday night.
Despite holding a loftier position in the German domestic pyramid than their Friday night’s counterparts, Kaiserslautern, the visitors have really struggled for results since mid-December.
They have failed to win any of their 17 matches since that date.
Within this sequence of results, Dynamo Dresden have suffered seven defeats and have been involved in no fewer than 10 draws as well.
And the prospect of a draw on Friday night may well represent Dynamo Dresden’s best chance of gaining something from this upcoming trip to the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.
Results away from home have also continued along a similar theme to that of Dresden’s results generally.
The visitors have managed to record just one win out of their last 15 games on the road.
That rare success came in the shape of a 1-0 win away at Erzebirge Aue but nine defeats within this period suggest Dynamo Dresden may well be happy to settle for a draw.
Kaiserslautern with home advantage will give it a real go here.
