The Austrian top flight season has split into the second phase of the campaign and Friday evening features this upcoming clash in the Relegation Group between basement dwellers, Rheindorf Altach, and the leaders of the table, WSG Tirol, at the CASHPOINT Arena with a precious three points at stake.
Altach head into Friday night’s encounter on the back of a 3-0 win away from home at Admira
#ALTWSG 👊ℹ https://t.co/8HORMoDpHL pic.twitter.com/VRLSlDj1fZ— SCR Altach (@SCRAltach) May 17, 2022

But recent results have produced a mixed bag of returns for the hosts as they also picked up a 3-0 win away at Friday’s opponents, WSG Tirol, but have also slipped to losses against LASK and Hartberg as well.
The bigger picture though suggests that Altach may have their work cut out for this fixture with Tirol.
The hosts have managed to capture just three wins out of their last 19 matches overall in the Austrian top flight.
Within this poor sequence of results, Altach have been handed no fewer than 12 defeats while on home soil, Altach have failed to win any of their last 13 games at their CASHPOINT Arena.
Onto WSG Tirol and the visitors sit top of the Relegation Group and bizarrely, the visitors look to be on track to qualify for one of the Conference League play-off places despite finishing the regular Austrian Bundesliga season in the bottom half of the division in 9th place.
Nevertheless, Tirol have earned their current place at the summit of the Relegation Group as they’ve put together a five-match unbeaten run in recent weeks as the visitors have racked up four wins and a draw within this period.
Victories over Ried (home and away), LASK and Hartberg along with a point in a draw with Admira have helped lift Tirol to top spot and with a seven-point buffer over 3rd placed Ried, Tirol have qualified for one of the Europa Conference League play-off places.
Following a previous 10-match drought on the road without a win in the Austrian top flight, Tirol have turned their fortunes around on their travels.
The visitors have lost just one of their last five games away from home which gives them a decent chance of a positive result at Altach on Friday night.
Tirol have also lost just once in their previous five meetings against Altach as well.
