There’s action from the French top flight on Wednesday night which features this upcoming Ligue 1 clash between Nice and St Etienne at the Allianz Riviera with the hosts looking to return to the top five pack in the division.
Despite picking up a second win on the trot in the domestic top flight last time out with a 1-0 win away from home at Bordeaux, Wednesday night’s hosts, Nice, have dropped down to 6th place.

But a third league win on the trot here against St Etienne would see the hosts jump back into European contention.
An earlier 1-0 victory against Troyes has helped keep Nice in the frame for a possible top five finish in Ligue 1.
But the bigger picture shows that Nice have managed to capture just three wins out of their last eight matches overall.
Nevertheless, Nice have made a solid improvement upon results on home soil in recent times as the hosts are unbeaten in their last five games at their Allianz Riviera, collecting four wins in the process.
St Etienne may therefore have their work cut out if they’re to walk away from Nice with something in their back pocket on Wednesday night as the third from bottom visitors look to keep in touch with the teams above them in a bid to escape relegation.
St Etienne will also be keen to avoid a third league defeat on the trot in this Wednesday’s clash following back to back losses against Monaco and Rennes.
And having managed to register just one win out of their last eight matches overall, the visitors face a tough assignment in this encounter.
Their one success during this recent lean period came in the form of a 2-1 home win over Brest but although they’ve lost four of these eight games, St Etienne have picked up important points in the shape of draws with Lille, Troyes and Bordeaux, so they may well be happy to settle for a point on Wednesday night as well.
St Etienne have failed to win any of their last five games away from home though, which includes suffering losses at PSG, Lorient and Rennes, whilst points on the road in draws at Lille and Bordeaux have made very little impact.
Nice should therefore win this encounter.
