Inter Milan are two points off of Serie A leader AC Milan with three games left on the fixture list. The Nerazzurri’s recent shock loss to Bologna allowed AC Milan to get the upper hand in the tight fight.

Now Friday night, Inter Milan will welcome Empoli to the San Siro. The Azzurri are in 14th place in Siere A’s standings ahead of matchday 36. Just one of Empoli’s last six matches in Serie A finished as a win.

Empoli have achieved safety for next season, but they have been incredibly poor in the season's second half. The Azzurri have shown relegation form in the second half of the season.

Inter Milan are Serie A’s most in-form team heading into matchday 36. The Nerazzurri picked up 15 points from the last 18 points available to them in the division. Simone Inzaghi’s team scored 12 goals and conceded five times across the last six matches.

Empoli picked up a mere five points from the last 18 points on offer in the division. They scored six times while conceding 11 goals in the last six games.

The Azzurri are coming off of a 3-1 home loss to Torino. Empoli’s last three away games finished as losses. They have an away record of 5W-6D-6L with 19 goals scored and 22 against.

Inter Milan are Serie A’s best home team. Their last four matches at San Siro ended without a defeat. They have a home record of 12W-3D-2L with 41 goals for and 14 against.

The Nerazzurri’s most recent fixture against Udinese ended in an away 2-1 win. With two points now separating Inter Milan and AC Milan, the Nerazzurri must win their remaining three games and hope the Rossoneri drop points.

Friday’s match will be the third meeting of the campaign between Inter Milan and Empoli. The Nerazzurri won at Empoli 2-0 in Serie A thanks to goals on either side of halftime from Danilo D’Ambrosio and Federico Dimarco. Empoli’s Samuele Ricci was sent off in the second half.

The teams played in the Coppa Italia as well with Inter Milan progressing. The game, which was played at San Siro, finished 2-2 at the end of full-time. Stefano Sensi scored in extra-time to send the Nerazzurri through.

Inter Milan are in a must-win situation after dropping points a week ago. The Nerazzurri should pick up a second league win over Empoli at home on Friday night. Inter Milan should post a 3-1 win to move into first place for around 48 hours.
