Lorient and Reims set for a high-scoring clash at the Stade du Moustoir

The French top flight action continues on Sunday and features this upcoming clash between two bottom half teams in Ligue 1 with 15th placed Lorient taking on 13th placed Reims at the Stade Yves Allainmat.

After having lost each of their last three away matches on the trot with defeats incurred at PSG, Nice and Rennes, Lorient will no doubt be eager to return to the more familiar surroundings of their Stade Yves Allainmat.

The hosts have picked up seven points from their last three home games.

A 0-0 draw with 6th placed Strasbourg was followed by back to back wins against St Etienne 6-2 and a 1-0 victory over Metz and Lorient will be hoping for more of the same when they entertain Reims on Sunday afternoon.

Although home wins have been a little thin on the ground in recent times, the bigger picture shows Lorient have been tough to beat on home soil in the French top flight as the hosts have lost just five out of their last 22 home games, and they’re also unbeaten in their last six meetings against Reims as well.

Onto Reims then, and although the visitors sit in 13th place in the Ligue 1 standings, they’ve managed to record just one win in their last six matches overall in the domestic top flight, which came in the form of a 2-1 home win against Lille.

However, three defeats within this recent six-match sequence suggest this upcoming trip to face a usually solid Lorient outfit in their own backyard could pose a few problems for Reims who have been handed recent losses by Troyes, Rennes and Marseille lately.

Reims have also found wins away from home tough to come by as well, with the visitors winning just four of their 17 away games to date in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign and with just two wins in their last eight outings on their travels, Reims will do well to perhaps even gain a point here.

In addition, Reims have also failed to score in five of these last eight games on the road and their difficulty in finding the back of the net may once again hold them back this Sunday against a Lorient outfit who have held the upper hand over them in previous exchanges.
