The French top flight action continues on Monday and features this upcoming clash between high-flying Monaco and 14th placed Angers when the two teams meet at the Stade Louis II with the hosts looking to maintain their challenge for a European spot for next season.
After posting some indifferent results in Ligue 1 for some time beforehand, Monaco have since clicked into gear as the principality club have won their last six matches on the trot with victories over PSG, Metz, Troyes, Rennes, Nice and St Etienne respectively.

This recent surge of wins have helped lift Monaco up into 4th spot in Ligue 1 where they sit level on points with 3rd placed Rennes but in order to grab the Champions League qualifying spot, the hosts will need to attain more points than Rennes because of Rennes’ superior goal difference of +19.
Form at home has been pretty solid for Monaco who have lost just once in their last 14 matches at the Stade Louis II and having won their last three home games on the trot, the hosts look to be in good shape here.
Angers occupy 14th place in the Ligue 1 standings but the visitors only hold a four-point cushion above the bottom three ahead of this upcoming trip to Monaco.
So the visitors know they need a result of some sort here in order to stay at arms length away from the relegation battle below them.
Following on from a disastrous seven-match losing streak in the French top flight, Angers seem to have staged a recovery in their subsequent six matches.
They’ve lost just a further two games within this period and they have also picked up a 1-0 home win over Brest along with points gained in draws with Lille, Nantes and Clermont.
However, having collected just one league win from their last 13 attempts, Angers are likely to adopt a ‘damage limitation’ stance here this Sunday particularly as they’ve also failed to win any of their last eight away games in Ligue 1 as well.
The bigger picture shows Angers have managed to collect just one away win from their last 16 outings on their travels and they face a fairly daunting task of keeping Monaco quiet here this Sunday at the Stade Louis II.
