There’s also action from the French top flight on Saturday when all the major European leagues return to action and Ligue 1 features this upcoming clash between Nice and Rennes at the Allianz Riviera with both teams jostling with 2nd placed Marseille for a top two finish and possible Champions League football next season.

Nice were handed a 2-1 defeat away from home at aforementioned Marseille just before the international break but the hosts now return to home soil where they’ll be eager to produce a better performance in their quest to become the runners-up to the runaway Ligue 1 leaders, PSG.

Recent results have been a little inconsistent for Nice who have picked up wins against Angers and most impressive of all, a 1-0 victory over PSG but Nice have also been handed three defeats in recent times too; losses against Clermont, Lyon and Marseille have prevented Nice from already occupying a top two spot in the division.

It’s worth mentioning though that two of Nice’s recent three defeats were actually away from home, while results on home soil have improved of late, winning four of their last five games overall at their Allianz Riviera ground.

Rennes will head into this upcoming Ligue 1 clash at Nice in confident mood as they signed off for the international break on the back of five league wins on the trot in the domestic top flight, securing wins against Troyes, Montpellier, Angers, Lyon and Metz respectively.

The latter being a 6-1 thrashing of their opponents at their Roazhon Park.

This recent upturn in fortunes will have certainly been a welcome boost for Rennes who had previously lost six of their preceding nine games in Ligue 1.

But although the visitors have hoisted themselves up into 3rd place in the Ligue 1 standings and back into contention for a possible Champions League spot next term, results away from home have been inconsistent.

Rennes have lost four of their last six games on the road with losses incurred at Monaco, Lens, Clermont and PSG.

But they’ll be hoping they can replicate the sort of form which saw them record recent wins at Montpellier and Lyon.

Five out of the last six meetings between these two sides have resulted in both teams scoring and both teams look set to notch again in this upcoming clash as well.
