Saturday afternoon’s action in the Italian top flight features the clash between Spezia and Venezia as the Serie A schedule resumes after the international break when the two teams meet at the Stadio Alberto Picco.
Spezia currently occupy 16th place in the Serie A standings and hold a seven-point cushion over the relegation zone but recent results suggest that the hosts aren’t out of the woods yet having lost five out of their last six matches overall, while picking up just one win in the process.
Defeats to Fiorentina 2-1, Bologna 2-1, Roma 1-0, Juventus 1-0 and a heavy 4-1 thrashing at Sassuolo have overshadowed the one success which came in the form of a 2-0 home win against Cagliari, while results on home soil at their Stadio Alberto Picco have also been on the disappointing side.
Spezia have managed to win just two out of their last eight home games and the hosts have also slipped to four defeats within this period as well, so there appears to be no guarantees for the hosts in this clash.
Venezia have also had their problems too down near the bottom of the Serie A table as the visitors sit third from bottom and three points adrift of Cagliari and safety prior to this important fixture away at Spezia.
Venezia have lost their last four matches on the trot in the Italian top flight, suffering defeats against Verona, Sassuolo, Lazio and Sampdoria respectively.
While the bigger picture doesn’t fill one with much confidence either.
The visitors have picked up just the one win out of their last 16 matches and this came in the shape of a 2-1 win away at Torino but 11 losses within this poor sequence has dumped Venezia in the relegation zone for the time being.
A glimmer of hope for Venezia is the fact that they’ve picked up three away wins to date this term with victories gained at Empoli, Bologna and the aforementioned win at Torino while also picking up points in draws at Cagliari, Genoa and Sampdoria.
So they may just squeeze out a result of sorts on Saturday afternoon.
Venezia have also suffered just the one defeat in the previous seven meetings against Spezia and they may grab a point in this encounter.
