Emmen to Ease Past Telstar to remain top of the Eerste Divisie

Top of the table FC Emmen will welcome SC Telstar to the De Oude Meerdijk this Sunday afternoon with the league leaders looking to expand their lead at the top and heap more misery on a struggling away side as a result.

It has been a really tough season for Telstar in 2021/22, and after losing 2-1 to Den Haag, the club have moved back into the losing column and have now lost 13 times in the Eerste Divisie and boast of only 32 points inside the league and are still well within a fight to stay in the competition for next season.

Furthermore, the club have managed to win seven games and drawn 11 other fixtures too, so there's a chance they can get themselves out of this mess and move further up the rankings.

At the same time, however, despite beating Dordecht 1-0 last Friday, they previously went six games without a victory and failed to win a single game throughout February and have picked up only four points throughout March so far.

A win here against the league leaders is unlikely, but with a three-point gap on the bottom three and barely anything including goal difference separating the bottom five, each passing week is becoming more and more important for Telstar in terms of picking up crucial points.

Worse yet for Telstar before heading to Drenthe, the club have now conceded 58 goals inside only 31 games - only Dordecht and MVV have conceded more than they have.

At the same time, Emmen themselves have scored 52 times, which is just six fewer than what Telstar have actually conceded.

The league leaders here are in great confidence still after they defeated VVV away from home in a 2-0 win to make it four wins on the bounce since losing to Helmond Sport.

Now, Emmen have let in only two goals and scored 11 times in their past four victorious games and they remain the team to beat in the Dutch second tier.

There is still just a three-point gap on Volendam, however, but with just four draws compared to their 10, Emmen have made a fantastic habit of winning games these days to push them to the top of the table with 21 victories so far from 31 games.

It’s near enough impossible to back Telstar here, and Forebet predicts another win for the table-topping side here as the game should also see over 2.5 goals.
