The Spanish second tier action continues on Sunday and features this upcoming clash between basement dwellers, Alcorcon, and high-flying 3rd placed Real Valladolid, at the Estadio Santo Domingo with a precious three points up for grabs for both sides.
Alcorcon’s fate already looks to be sealed as the hosts sit rock bottom of La Liga 2 and they find themselves a massive 18 points adrift of fifth from bottom club Sporting Gijon and safety, and time is running out fast for Alcorcon to achieve a great escape.

Alcorcon’s plight hasn’t been helped by the fact that the hosts have managed to pick up just the one league win out of their last 23 matches overall.
This win came in the shape of a 1-0 home win over Huesca but also includes losing 13 games within this poor period of results.
Indeed, the bigger picture shows that Alcorcon have found life hard going in the Spanish second tier as they’ve collected just three wins in total throughout what has been an extremely disappointing campaign, winning just twice at home all season.
By contrast, Real Valladolid sit in 3rd spot in La Liga 2 and the visitors know that all three points in Sunday’s encounter away at Alcorcon could move them closer to the two automatic promotion spots in their bid to lift themselves back into the Spanish top flight this term.
However, Real Valladolid have been handed two defeats on the trot in recent weeks as the visitors have slipped to losses against Real Oviedo and Las Palmas in 3-0 and 1-0 defeats.
So although this may have cost Valladolid a possible top two berth, they will no doubt fancy their chances in Sunday’s clash against bottom of the table Alcorcon.
Prior to these two recent defeats, Real Valladolid had posted an impressive and solid looking 11-match unbeaten run in La Liga 2 which include eight victories in the process, so they look set to turn things around here on Sunday evening.
Perhaps the most telling statistic though between these two clubs is that Real Valladolid are unbeaten in each of the previous 14 meetings against their hosts, Alcorcon, picking up nine wins in the process and number 10 victory doesn’t look too far away either!
