On Sunday, the Italian capital will come to a standstill when arch-rivals Roma and Lazio go head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico.

The old foes are separated by just a solitary point in the Serie A standings, with seventh-place Roma trailing fifth-place Lazio.

However, the standings invariably count for nothing when these two sides do battle. Form goes out the window, and there are usually plenty of goals.

Roma head into Sunday’s showdown on an eight-match unbeaten streak in Serie A, having picked up four wins and four draws since their last loss.

Although Jose Mourinho’s men have drawn four of their previous six league outings, they have kept three clean sheets along the way.

That said, they have scored under 1.5 goals in five of their last eight Serie A encounters. It goes without saying that Mourinho will be eager to change that.

It is also worth pointing out that Roma have lost just two of their past 13 Serie A clashes, securing six wins and five draws in the process.

It’s fair to say that Lazio are also enjoying a positive run at the moment. Indeed, they have lost only one of their last eight league games.

Having won five and drawn two of their previous eight, they will be confident of getting something from Sunday’s Derby della Capitale.

Let’s not forget that only one team – third-place Inter Milan – have scored more Serie A goals than Lazio’s 58 this season.

At the opposite end of the pitch, however, the Eagles have conceded 42 goals. That means they have the worst defensive record in the top eight.

Head-to-head: In the reverse fixture back in September, Lazio claimed a 3-2 victory – meaning each of the past seven Derby della Capitales have produced over 1.5 goals.

Roma have managed to win just one of their previous six meetings with Lazio and have lost two of the last three.

Team news: Roma are still without long-term absentee Leonardo Spinazzola due to an achilles tendon rupture. However, the rest of the squad is ready and available.

As for Lazio, they will be missing the injured trio of Danilo Cataldi, Stefan Radu and Patryk Dziczek on Sunday.

Given the high-scoring nature of this fixture, we are destined to see plenty of goals at both ends of the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Roma and Lazio will play out a high-scoring draw – with both sides netting over 1.5 goals.
