Can Monaco upset Ligue 1 leader Paris Saint-Germain?
    18/03/22 5076

Monaco host Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday afternoon at the Stade Louis II in Ligue 1. Les Monegasque are on a poor run of form with just one win from their last five games. However, manager Philippe Clement’s team will be up for playing the league leaders.

Paris Saint-Germain are fresh off of thrashing Ligue 1’s last-place team Bordeaux. Four of Paris Saint-Germain's last six Ligue 1 games ended as wins. Mauricio Pochettino’s team has one trophy still available to them.

The Parisians can only win the Ligue 1 title, which they are on pace to do this season. Fifteen points separate Paris Saint-Germain and second-place Marseille.

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Monaco 2-0 at the Parc des Princes earlier this season. Ex-Monaco star Kylian Mbappe scored both goals with one coming from the penalty spot. Both goals came in the first half.

Monaco always provide Paris Saint-Germain with a difficult match. However, Paris Saint-Germain have a strong head-to-head versus Monaco. The Parisians posted a record of 7W-1D-2L in their last 10 meetings in all competitions. Monaco did the league double over Paris Saint-Germain last season in Ligue 1.

The last three games between these hated French rivals finished as wins to nil. In fact, each of the teams’ last three encounters finished with 2-0 scorelines.

Paris Saint-Germain took 12 points from the last 18 points available in the division. They were +7 in goals in the last six matches.

Monaco took only eight points from the last 18 points on offer in Ligue 1. Goals have been difficult to come by for Les Monegasque. They scored five times and conceded four goals in the last six matches.

Clement will be without Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas. He has an ankle injury that will keep him sidelined. Forward Krepin Diatta is ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with an ACL injury.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Pochettino could be without up to five players. Full-back Juan Bernat is a major doubt with a calf injury. Midfielder Angel Di Maria is a major doubt due to a hamstring strain.

Defender Layvin Kurzawa has back injury that could keep him out of action. Midfielder Ander Herrera and defender Sergio Ramos are both major doubts to play.

Paris Saint-Germain have an excellent head-to-head record against Monaco, and they should post another win versus the home side. Paris Saint-Germain lead the league in goals with 59. Monaco will struggle to keep goals out as the Parisians win 2-1 on the road.
