There’s further action from the French top flight on Sunday when Rennes take on Metz at Roazhon Park in Ligue 1 with both teams needing a favourable result here.

Rennes currently occupy 4th place in the Ligue 1 standings but with just a single point separating them from 2nd placed Marseille and one of the automatic Champions League spots, an even greater prize could be on offer for Friday night’s hosts.

Friday night’s hosts, Rennes, have certainly been on top form in recent weeks in the domestic top flight.

They’ve won their last four games on the trot by gaining victories over Troyes, Montpellier, Angers and Lyon.

Confidence will therefore be high amongst the Rennes camp that they can forge further ahead with their ambitions of a possible top two finish with a win against Metz on Sunday especially on home soil where they have also captured four wins on the trot.

Rennes have also racked up a total of 14 goals in the process, having despatched Bordeaux 6-0, Brest 2-0, Troyes 4-1 and Angers 2-0 respectively, with forwards Laborde (14 goals) and Terrier (11 goals) causing the bulk of the damage.

Metz are also in need of all three points as the visitors sit second from bottom in Ligue 1 and find themselves four points adrift of fourth from bottom outfit Lorient and safety prior to this tough looking outing to Roazhon Park on Friday night.

Metz’s task is made even tougher as the visitors are without a win in seven games in the domestic top flight and although they’ve picked up points in draws with Troyes, Lille, Nantes and Lens, defeats to Nice, Marseille and St Etienne have overshadowed Metz’s minimal successes of late.

The bigger picture paints an even worse picture despite Metz picking up three wins as the visitors’ only highlights in their previous 20 games were wins against Nice, Lorient and Reims but they’d also slipped to nine defeats within this period as well.

In addition, Metz have managed to pick up just three wins out of their last 15 matches on their travels in Ligue 1 as well, and this could play an important part to the outcome of Friday night’s clash at Roazhon Park against a motivated Rennes outfit.
