Fiorentina will be eyeing off all three points ahead of this Sunday’s clash on home soil at their Stadio Artemio Franchi where they’ll play host to bottom half outfit, Bologna, as the hosts look to stay in touch with the top six pack in Serie A.
Inconsistency has been the major catalyst behind Fiorentina not already sitting in the top six pack as the hosts’ best runs of results to date in this season’s Italian top flight campaign have been three wins on the trot twice so far this season.
Fiorentina recently posted back-to-back wins in Serie A against Spezia and Atalanta but then suffered defeat away from home at Sassuolo, this preventing the hosts from moving themselves closer to 6th placed Roma whom they trail by a four-point margin.
However, with a reasonably strong record on home soil which reads W8 D2 L3, scoring a total of 31 goals and conceding 16 in reply, Fiorentina look a strong prospect at home as they’ve lost just once in their last 10 games, picking up seven wins in the process.
Sunday’s visitors, Bologna, have experienced even greater struggles in the past few weeks in the Italian top flight as they’ve managed to collect just one win out of their last eight games, losing four of these matches as well.
Bologna’s singular success during this recent period of results in Serie A came in the form of a 2-1 home win over Spezia.
But defeats to Cagliari, Napoli, Verona and Lazio have overshadowed their minimal success and three of these four defeats were inflicted upon Bologna away from home as well.
Results away from home haven’t seen much of an improvement of late either as the visitors have lost three out of their last four outings on the road.
Bologna have managed to win just three away games all season to date in this campaign.
The bigger picture shows Bologna have won just three out of their previous 17 matches on their travels and have suffered nine defeats within this period too, so the prospects of an away win on Sunday seems remote.
Fiorentina have held the upper hand over Bologna in previous exchanges too as the hosts are unbeaten in the last 15 meetings against their visitors and this trend looks set to continue in this clash as well.
