Lazio and Napoli were both eliminated from the Europa League on Thursday night. Now, both teams turn their attention back to Serie A in a massive match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
The Biancocelesti are sixth in the division and a mere four points off of fourth-place Juventus and the final Champions League qualification place. Napoli are third in Serie A and two points off of first place.
A win for Napoli on Sunday could send them into first place depending on the results of AC Milan and Inter Milan. The Partenopei won the last two meetings against Lazio in Serie A, including the teams’ meeting earlier this season in Naples 4-0.
The last seven matches between these teams finished with the home team winning. Lazio won the last two matches between these clubs at the Stadio Olimpico.
Napoli are the in-form team in Serie A having picked up 14 points from the last 18 points available in the division. The Partenopei scored 14 goals and conceded three times across their last six games in Serie A.
Lazio collected 11 points from the last 18 points available in the league. Maurizio Sarri’s team also scored 11 goals and conceded three times.
The Biancocelesti have been strong at home this season with 25 points from 36 points possible in Serie A. Napoli have been equally as good on the road with 28 points coming from 39 points possible in the division.
Sarri will be without defender Manuel Lazzari. The defender is suffering from a hamstring injury and will be out of action until March.
Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has five players on the injury list. Defender Kevin Malcuit is ruled out with a calf injury. Franck Andre Anguissa has a groin strain and is out of action. Defender Axel Tuanzebe, midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, and forward Hirving Lozano are all set to miss the game as well.
The Partenopei are unbeaten in five of their last seven games against Lazio. Both teams are in good form and Sunday’s clash should be rather close.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in nine of Napoli's last 10 Serie A matches. Sunday’s game should finish with under 2.5 goals once more as both teams find the back of the net in a score draw.
