The French top flight action continues on Sunday evening and features this upcoming clash between 2nd placed Marseille and 15th placed Clermont at the Stade Orange Vélodrome with the hosts looking to consolidate their current position in Ligue 1.
Sunday’s hosts, Marseille, currently possess an important four-point cushion over 3rd placed Nice ahead of this weekend’s domestic top flight action but the hosts know that they cannot afford any slip-ups if they’re to maintain their challenge for a Champions League spot next season.

Marseille have recently recorded back-to-back wins against Angers 5-2 and Metz 2-1, so the hosts will be seeking to make it three wins on the trot in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening as they look to extend their solid and consistent run of results of late in Ligue 1.
Sunday’s hosts have suffered just two defeats in their last 16 matches overall, which came in the form of losses to Brest and Lyon.
Marseille have also picked up nine wins in the process as well.
Clermont remain in 15th place in the Ligue 1 standings despite being handed a 2-1 defeat at home by a rejuvenated St Etienne outfit last weekend and although Clermont had previously posted back-to-back wins against Rennes and Nice, the visitors have managed to pick up just three wins out of their last 14 matches overall in Ligue 1.
This worrying run of results have seen Clermont’s fortunes decline in the French top flight and as a result, Clermont now only hold a three-point advantage over third from bottom club, St Etienne, prior to this tough looking assignment against Marseille.
Nine defeats within this 14-match period suggest that this could be a long evening for Clermont who also look to have their work cut out if they’re to even steal a point off their high-flying hosts.
Results this season away from home look to further condemn their chances on Sunday.
With just three away wins all season to date, Clermont have also stumbled to seven defeats within their 12 away games so far this term.
There have been only two previous meetings between these two teams but Marseille have come out on top in each of these and the hosts look set to extend their dominance on Sunday evening.
