On Sunday afternoon, Genoa and Salernitana clash at the Luigi Ferraris, as two of Serie A’s strugglers meet in what could be a big game in the fight for Serie A survival.
Genoa look to be in big trouble at the wrong end of the table, as the Rossoblu find themselves 19th place in the table, six points from safety. Unsurprisingly, considering their position in the table, the home team’s recent league form has not been great.
In fact, Alexander Blessin’s team are currently 21 matches without a win in Serie A. Their most recent league results were back-to-back goalless draws against Udinese and Roma, which were not terrible results. However, they now need wins to have any chance of survival this season.
A home game against the bottom team in the table should be an opportunity to pick up three points. However, Genoa have failed to win any of their last 13 league matches on home soil.
Salernitana are bottom of the standings, but there are signs that the Granata are not going down without a fight.
A 2-2 draw against Spezia means that they have won one, drawn one and lost two of their last four league games.
It may not sound like an impressive run of results, but compared to their early-season league form it’s an improvement at least.
Despite a slew of January signings and a slight improvement in form of late, Stefano Colantuono’s team are still nine points from safety.
The Granata’s recent away form has been poor, as they have lost five of their previous seven matches on their travels in Serie A.
The visitors have also conceded at least two goals in all five of those recent defeats.
