Sunday afternoon’s offering in the French top flight sees Angers and Strasbourg pitting their wits against each other when the two teams meet at the Stade Raymond-Kopa with Angers looking to avoid a third consecutive league defeat in Ligue 1.
Recent back-to-back defeats against St Etienne and Marseille in 1-0 and 5-2 losses respectively have meant that Angers still remain in 12th place on the Ligue 1 ladder and wins in the domestic top flight have been hard to come by for Sunday’s hosts.

Angers have managed to record just one win out of their last six games overall which came in the form of a 2-1 home win over 16th placed Troyes but four losses within this period have prevented Angers from lifting themselves up into the top half of Ligue 1.
Defeats incurred against Clermont 1-0, Montpellier 4-1, St Etienne 1-0 and the aforementioned 5-2 hammering to Marseille have done the recent damage and now Angers face a fresh challenge in the shape of Strasbourg this Sunday.
Strasbourg returned to winning ways in the domestic top flight on the weekend with a narrow 1-0 home win over Nantes which resulted in Strasbourg remaining in 4th place and four points adrift of 3rd placed Nice prior to this next round of fixtures.
Although they’ve recently suffered defeats against Marseille and Bordeaux, these have been Strasbourg’s only losses in their previous 12 games overall in Ligue 1 and this solid sequence of results also include winning seven of these 12 games as well.
Therefore, Strasbourg will head into this Sunday’s encounter at the Stade Raymond-Kopa in confident mood as they seek to bounce back from their 4-3 loss away at Bordeaux last time out on their travels.
Strasbourg had previously strung together three away wins on the trot though which they’ll be hoping will stand the visitors in good stead for this clash against Angers, having secured maximum points with wins at Nice, Metz and Clermont respectively and each of them also saw Strasbourg keep clean sheets as well.
The bigger picture shows Strasbourg have lost just four of their last 15 away games in Ligue 1 and they also recorded a 2-0 win at Angers in their last meeting at the Stade Raymond-Kopa too.
Strasbourg therefore stand a decent chance of claiming the points here.
