The French top flight action returned this week with Lyon beating Marseille 2-1 so Friday night’s hosts, Marseille, will be seeking to set the record straight when they take on Angers at their Stade Orange Vélodrome and grab the important three points.
That recent defeat away from home at Lyon ended a previous five-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 which included wins against Strasbourg, Bordeaux and Lens, all of which were away from home but results on home soil at their Stade Orange Vélodrome have been a little disappointing from a side that currently sit in 3rd spot in the domestic top flight.

Marseille have recorded just one win from their last six games at home and this came in the form of a 1-0 victory over Troyes who continue to hover just above the relegation zone.
However, draws with PSG, Metz, Reims and Lille together with a 2-1 loss to Brest perhaps indicate a potential soft underbelly at Marseille so the goals market nay be best here; indeed, seven of Marseille’s 11 home games have seen both teams score.
Onto Angers and the visitors currently occupy 12th place in Ligue 1 and they head into this upcoming clash having picked up just the one win out of their last five games overall, that being a 2-1 home win against Troyes.
Results overall have been mixed where Angers have been concerned all season in Ligue 1 so perhaps their current mid-table position is warranted and understandable but the visitors have done enough to avoid being dragged down to the lower reaches of the division so far this season.
This has particularly been the case on the road for Angers as the visitors have suffered just the two defeats on their travels in their last 11 matches which were handed to them at PSG and Montpellier.
But with only two wins as well, the goals market may again be the best option for this upcoming clash.
Nine of Angers’ 11 away games so far this season have resulted with both teams hitting the back of the net.
Angers have certainly been capable of both scoring and conceding on their travels all season.
In addition, two of the previous three meetings between Marseille and Angers have also seen both teams score.
