Internazionale host Venezia in Serie A on Saturday. The Nerazzurri dodged a bullet a week ago with a nil-nil draw with Atalanta. Despite dropping two points, AC Milan could not take advantage of Inter’s draw.
The Rossoneri lost in shocking fashion to Spezia. Inter were able to pull further ahead of AC Milan. Now, two points separate the Milan rivals. Inter will aim to continue their brilliant Serie A form this weekend when Venezia arrive at San Siro.
The Winged Lions are just ahead of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend’s match with Inter. Venezia are 17th with 18 points from 21 matches. Each of Venezia’s last six games finished without a victory. They are –19 in goals this season with the second-fewest goals in Serie A (19).
Inter, on the other hand, have scored Serie A’s most goals. The Nerazzurri have bagged 51 goals in 21 Serie A games. Inter went to Venezia and claimed a 2-0 win earlier this season.
The Nerazzurri scored on either side of halftime thanks to goals from Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez. Martinez’s goal came in the 90th minute from the penalty spot. Inter’s win was not assured until the final minutes of the match.
Venezia have just one players set to miss the match this weekend. Defender Tyronne Ebuehi is at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Simone Inzaghi could be without forward Joaquin Correa. He is expected to miss matches until mid-February following a hamstring injury. Inzaghi could be forced to rotate the squad after Inter were involved in a 2-2 Coppa Italia match in midweek versus Empoli. The Nerazzurri won in extra-time.
Inter and Venezia’s match played earlier this season was their first meeting since the 2001-02 campaign. There are no trends between these teams going into the weekend.
The Milan-based club is Serie A’s best home team in terms of points. Inter have taken 26 points from 30 points available in the division. They have scored 27 times and allowed seven goals to opponents at San Siro.
Inter average the most shots were game in Serie A with 17 per game. Martinez leads the side in goals with 11, which is 22% of Inter’s goals.
Venezia are winless in back-to-back away matches. They have taken just nine points from 30 possible on the road. The Winged Lions should fall to a defeat once more on the road this weekend versus Inter.
The Nerazzurri may experience another low-scoring game versus Venezia. Despite under 2.5 goals being scored, Inter will once again claim a win to nil versus Venezia.
