Sunday afternoon’s hosts, Nice, will be keen to extend their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to four matches this weekend when they take on mid-table outfit, Montpellier, at their Allianz Riviera and in turn hold onto their current 2nd place spot as well.
Recent wins against Lyon and Angers in 3-2 and 2-1 victories respectively along with a point gained in a 1-1 draw at home with Marseille has helped Nice maintain their challenge for a possible top two finish this season.

Overall form this term has certainly been promising from Nice so far in this campaign and indeed, the hosts have suffered just the two defeats out of their 12 matches played to date in the French top flight.
It’s also worth mentioning that the two losses for Nice were both inflicted upon them on their travels, losing at Lorient and Troyes, while form and results on home turf at their Allianz Riviera have been solid.
Nice still remain unbeaten in their opening six home games and this includes wins against Bordeaux, Brest and Lyon.
Montpellier sit in 11th place on the Ligue 1 standings thanks to a 2-0 home win over Nantes last weekend which saw them bounce back from a heavy 3-1 loss away at Monaco the week before.
Montpellier’s form has been fairly inconsistent though so far this season and their current 11th place position is probably a fair reflection of how their season has fared so far this term.
The visitors have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 4 and again this underlines their inconsistent nature but it’s worth taking note that all four of Montpellier’s victories so far this season have been picked up on home turf at their Stade de la Mosson, while results on the road have been ordinary to say the least.
Montpellier have picked up just two points from the possible 15 points on offer away from home so far this season thanks to draws at Reims and Troyes but losses at Lille, PSG and Monaco suggest that this Sunday’s trip to the Allianz Riviera could be beyond Montpellier.
Nice have won each of their previous five meetings at home on the trot against Montpellier and the hosts look in good shape to continue this hold over their visitors this Sunday.
