The French Ligue 1 action continues on Sunday with the evening clash between Rennes and Lyon at Roazhon Park with both teams keen to further their ambitions of a top five spot or better this season.
After having navigated their way through choppy waters in the early weeks of this new Ligue 1 season which saw Rennes pick up just the one win from their opening six games of the term, the hosts have since got into gear by putting together a useful looking six-match unbeaten run.

Rennes had previously been handed three defeats on the trot by the likes of Angers, Reims and Marseille but Bruno Genesio’s side have responded in impressive fashion by winning four of their subsequent six matches.
Victories over Clermont 6-0, PSG 2-0, Metz 3-0 and Strasbourg 1-0 have helped lift Rennes up into 5th place and just four points behind 2nd placed Nice prior to this weekend’s Ligue 1 action.
Rennes also possess solid form on home soil too as the hosts have suffered just the one defeat out of their last 11 matches at Roazhon Park.
Lyon sit just one league position below Rennes in 6th place but the visitors are level on points with their hosts so there’s everything to play for here this Sunday evening at Roazhon Park as Lyon seek back-to-back wins in the domestic top flight.
Lyon have lost just one of their last six matches overall in Ligue 1 which came in the shape of a 3-2 loss away at Nice but wins against Troyes, Monaco and Lens have helped the visitors keep up with the top five pack.
It’s worth noting however that all three of Lyon’s recent wins were registered on home soil at their Groupama Stadium where Lyon have won four of their total of five wins to date this season, while results on the road have been more modest.
Lyon have picked up just one win on the road so far this season from their five outings to date and they’ve also slipped to defeats at Angers, PSG and Nice as well, so the prospects of an away win here do seem slim but they could hold out for a point.
The previous meeting between these two sides at Roazhon Park ended in a 2-2 draw and this encounter could also end in stalemate.
