Marseille welcome Lazio to the Stade Velodrome in the Europa League on Thursday, a fortnight after the two sides produced a goalless draw in Rome.

Lazio find themselves second in Group E – three points behind first-place Galatasaray – having recorded one win, one draw and one loss so far.

Meanwhile, Marseille have drawn all three of their Europa League games this season and sit third in Group E – one point shy of Lazio.

The French side head into Thursday’s clash on the back of a 1-0 victory over Clermont Foot, with Cengiz Under netting the only goal of the game.

Marseille have moved to third in the Ligue 1 table – one point behind second-place Nice – after losing just two of their 12 domestic games this term.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men are currently enjoying a five-match unbeaten streak in all competitions, having picked up two wins and three draws since their last loss.

When it comes to the Europa League, it is worth noting that each of Marseille’s three outings have produced under 2.5 goals.

On the flip side, Lazio come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw with Atalanta – despite taking the lead on two occasions on Saturday.

Goals from Pedro and Ciro Immobile put the Italians ahead twice, but Atalanta battled back to rescue a draw.

Lazio have only managed to win five of their 11 Serie A matches this term, registering three draws and three draws in the process.

As a result, they sit sixth in Italy’s top tier – 13 points behind the early frontrunners, Napoli and AC Milan.

It is worth pointing out, however, that Lazio have lost just one of their previous five encounters across all competitions.

Head-to-head: As we know, Lazio and Marseille played out a goalless draw in Italy two weeks ago. Lazio had ten attempts last time around, while Marseille racked up 14.

Lazio beat Marseille twice during the 2018/19 season, meaning they are currently enjoying a three-game unbeaten streak against the French team.

Team news: Marseille could be without midfielder Valentin Rongier on Thursday after he sustained an adductor injury.

As for Lazio, they have two players sidelined through injury at the moment – Bobby Adekanye (meniscal) and Mattia Zaccagni (knee).

Given what happened a fortnight ago, Marseille and Lazio are likely to produce another tight encounter on Thursday.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Marseille and Lazio will dish up a low-scoring draw in France.
