FSV Mainz 05 will meet with FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga this Friday night in what is a crucial bout down at the bottom of the German top flight as Augsburg look to get out of the drop zone while bringing Mainz closer to it also.

As of now, the away side are currently on only six points from eight Bundesliga games so far and have conceded an alarming 14 goals and netted only four of their own.

In fact, Augsburg's only win of the season came against Borussia Monchengladbach, where they defeated them 1-0 thanks to a goal from Florian Niedercelchner in the 80th minute.

Ever since then, a 3-0 defeat to Freiburg and a 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund flung them straight back into the drop zone and it looks set to be a season of long hard work for Augsburg.

Markus Weinzierl’s side did also have a chance to get a bit of momentum in their last game as they met with fellow strugglers Arminia Bielefeld. The game ended 1-1 when Englishman Reece Oxford scored his first ever senior goal in football.

This draw all but summed up Augsburg’s season thus far and without a point here, they could face moving a position lower in the table depending on Bielefeld’s result.

However, they may be saved the embarrassment of moving any further towards doomsday as Greuther Fürth sti rock bottom with one point.

As for Mainz, they can boast a lot more form than their opponents this weekend, but the idea that they are safe from another relegation battle just because they sit in 12th is impossible to comprehend.

In fact, they sit just five points above Augsburg, and a defeat will throw them right back into the mix down at the bottom.

Mainz are, however, in rotten form once more and have seen their early purple patch turn quite sour recently as they are now winless in their past four games.

Dortmund, Union Berlin, and Bayer Leverkusen have all ended up defeating them, while they drew 0-0 with Freiburg. You have to go all the way back to early September for their last win, as they beat Hoffenheim 2-0 last month.

The home side also boast eight goals from eight games and have conceded that same amount too. With this in mind, Forebet predicts a win for them and over 2.5 goals with Augsburg struggling form set to continue.
