Sunday’s hosts, Lille, will be seeking to make it three league wins on the trot in Ligue 1 when they entertain Marseille at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy, following recent back-to-back wins in the domestic top flight which has helped the hosts up into 9th place.
Last season’s title-winners, Lille, had made a slow start to the new season as the hosts were held to draws by Metz (3-3 away) and Saint-Etienne (1-1 away) while also suffering a surprise heavy 4-0 defeat at home to Nice in between times.

Results since then have been of a mixed bag as Lille have picked up wins against Montpellier, Reims and Strasbourg but they’ve also been handed further losses in the shape of defeats to Lorient and Lens, both of which came in quick succession away from home.
Three defeats in these opening eight matches of the new season has dented Lille’s ambitions of defending last season’s Ligue 1 title, especially as PSG have made such an explosive start to this season, leaving Lille a massive 13 points adrift of the Paris club already.
Onto Marseille and the visitors currently sit in 3rd spot in Ligue 1 having lost just once in their opening seven games of this new season and they’ll no doubt fancy their chances of taking advantage of Lille’s indifferent start to this new season on Sunday.
Marseille had started this new Ligue 1 season in solid fashion as the visitors put together a six-match unbeaten run which included wins against Montpellier, Saint-Etienne, Monaco and Rennes.
Although they tasted defeat for the first time this season at home to Lens last weekend, they’ll still feel confident about their chances in this encounter.
The bigger picture shows that Marseille have been a pretty consistent outfit in the French top flight for some time as the visitors have lost just three out of their last 18 matches overall.
Marseille also bring a four-match unbeaten run on the road into this Sunday’s clash at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy and along with just one defeat out of their last seven games on their travels, Marseille stand a decent chance of getting something out of this upcoming trip.
Marseille have lost just one of the previous four meetings against Lille which will give the visitors a boost ahead of this important clash on Sunday and the visitors could take the spoils here.
