Valencia have been the surprise team of La Liga in the early stages of the new season. Los Che have taken 10 points from 12 possible and sit joint first with Real Madrid in La Liga’s standings.

New coach Jose Bordalas has done well with the Mestalla-based club. Now, he will take Valencia up against their most difficult test yet as Real Madrid arrive at the Mestalla on Sunday.

Real Madrid have taken 10 points from 12 possible this season and go into matchday 5 of the La Liga season following a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Los Blancos have won three straight games in all competitions going into the match.

Valencia have a strong record against Real Madrid and claimed a win at the Mestalla last season. Los Che won 4-1 thanks to three penalties from Carlos Soler and an own goal from Raphael Varane. Karim Benezma scored Real Madrid’s goal in the loss.

Real Madrid won the reverse fixture against Valencia in the capital 2-0. Valencia are unbeaten in 10 of their last 18 matches against Real Madrid in all competitions. Only four of those 10 games ended in wins for Valencia while six were draws.

Bordalas has just one player on the Valencia injury list going into the game. Denis Cheryshev is ruled out of action for Valencia with a knee injury until October.

Soler has scored three of Valencia’s goals this season while adding two assists. The midfielder has contributed to five of Valencia’s nine goals this season.

Carlo Ancelotti has several big names on the Real Madrid injury list going into the game. Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Marcelo, Dani Ceballos, and Ferland Mendy are all recovering from their respective injuries. Only Bale is currently ruled out of the match.

Summer signing Eduardo Camavinga could start next to Casemiro and Luka Modric. The Frenchman was signed to make the team’s old midfield much younger.

Federico Valverde started in midweek against Inter Milan and is also competing with Camavinga for a place in the team.

Valencia have been good against Real Madrid at the Mestalla in recent seasons. Three of the teams’ last four games at the Mestalla ended with Valencia claiming a win or draw.

Los Che should get a result against Real Madrid on Sunday night at home with the teams drawing at full-time.

Fourteen of the last 17 games between these clubs ended with over 2.5 goals scored and Sunday’s game should be another high-scoring game between the clubs.
