The French Ligue 1 action continues on Sunday afternoon with the clash between the current title-holders, Lille, and their visitors, Montpellier, as the teams meet at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy with Lille still searching for their first win of this new Ligue 1 season.
Two draws and a loss have resulted in Lille earning just two points from their opening three games of this new campaign thanks to draws with Metz and in 3-3 and 1-1 draws respectively and both of which were away from home.

However, a heavy 4-0 defeat on home soil at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy certainly wasn’t part of Lille’s plans as they look to defend their Ligue 1 title this term and the hosts will be desperate to set the record straight on Sunday when Montpellier visit.
It’s not all doom and gloom though for Lille as Sunday’s hosts have suffered just the one defeat out of their last 11 matches overall in Ligue 1 and they’ve lost just three of their last 21 games at home too.
Montpellier started their new Ligue 1 season on a losing note as they were handed a 3-2 loss at home by Marseille on the opening day of this new Ligue 1 season.
The visitors have since responded by picking up four points from their subsequent two matches.
A 3-3 draw away from home at Reims was followed by last weekend’s comprehensive 3-1 home win over Lorient so they may well be hoping that they can catch Lille off their guard in this upcoming encounter at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday afternoon.
Montpellier have been hampered by inconsistent results overall though in the French top flight that have also been littered with numerous draws as the visitors have managed to collect just four wins from their last 15 matches overall.
Within Montpellier’s last 15 matches, eight have resulted in draws while three defeats against Nice, Saint-Etienne and Marseille have largely undone the points picked up in the aforementioned stalemates.
However, Montpellier have been a tough side to beat on their travels as the visitors have lost just one of their last 10 games on the road in the domestic top flight but they’ve won just three; Lille have to start firing at some point though and this Sunday could be the day.
