Villarreal are 10 games without a loss against Granada in all competitions. The last time the Yellow Submarine were defeated by Granada was 2013-14.

Unai Emery’s team are on the up despite losing the UEFA Super Cup to Chelsea on penalties. Villarreal came from behind to force extra-time with a 1-1 draw. Now, with Champions League football booked for this season, the Yellow Submarine will try to crack La Liga’s top four.

They have a great chance to do it due to the financial issues at Real Madrid and Barcelona. A win on matchday 1 against Granada would be a great starting point from Villarreal.

Granada go into the campaign having finished ninth last term. They ended the season on a sour note, however, failing to win any of their last five games with four of those fixtures ending in losses.

Robert Moreno is the new coach at Granada and takes over for Diego Martinez. The manager may be remembered as the coach who took over for Luis Enrique with the national team while Enrique took some personal time off following his daughter’s death.

Following his work with the national team, Moreno had a brief spell in charge of Monaco in Ligue 1. He was sacked after just six months in the job. Moreno will hope Granada is a rebirth for his career. Unlike Monaco, Granada are a club outside the spotlight, which could help.

Villarreal struggled at the Estadio de la Ceramic last season taking 30 points from 57 possible. They were +6 in goals at home with 29 for and 23 against.

Granada were diabolical on the road with just 15 points from 57 on offer. They lost their final two road games of the campaign. Los Rojiblancos were –18 in goals on the road and scored just 22 times while allowing 40 to opponents.

Emery could have influential midfielder Dani Parejo back from injury. The ex-Valencia player is recovering from a muscle injury. Moreno, on the other hand, has two players likely to miss the game. Midfielder Yan Brice has a muscle issue while Neyder Lozano is recovering from a skull fracture.

Villarreal went unbeaten against Granada last season claiming a 2-2 home draw and 3-0 home win. The Yellow Submarine are 10 matches unbeaten against Granada and should run that number to 11.

Having played so well in the UEFA Super Cup, Emery’s team should translate that over to La Liga on Monday with a commanding win. It should look very much like their away 3-0 win at Granada last term.
