Bundesliga giants Borussia Mönchengladbach will travel to 1. FC Kaiserslautern for a DFB-Pokal first round clash as Die Borussen look set to make easy work of the third tier side.

Mönchengladbach had a dismal season last year and it was in fact one of their worst campaigns in recent times, where they dropped out of the top five for the first time in two seasons.

The Bundesliga regulars will now be without European football for the first time in three years.

At the same time, the club have also lost their beloved manager Marco Rose to Borussia Dortmund, and former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Adi Hütter will take the helm at Borussia Park this season.

Hütter did manage to rocket Frankfurt into fifth, above Gladbach and into a Europa League spot last season a year after almost being relegated.

Now, it does seem as if Die Borussen are in good hands with him in charge, despite the worries post-Rose.

Gladbach are expected to give plenty of their top names a rest ahead of their season opener in the Bundesliga against Bayern Munich.

This massive fixture coming so soon into the new campaign will likely mean players such as Lars Stindl and Marcus Thuram take a back seat, allowing youngsters such as Torben Müsel, Keanan Bennetts and Joe Scally to potentially get some game time.

Do still expect Hutter to field some well-known Bundesliga names, given how this is the 2021/22’s first professional game for them and his first for Gladbach himself.

As for Kaiserslautern, they are two games into their new league season down in the third tier and they are yet to score a goal.

Ahead of this DFB-Pokal meeting, the club currently sit 15th with one defeat and a goalless draw and are really lacking any sort of decent form ahead of hosting Gladbach.

This comes off the back of another torrid campaign for Kaiserslautern, where they once again finished just outside the bottom three and were saved by merely a few points within the professional ranks of German football.

Now, they meet with the Bundesliga heavyweights in what is expected to be arguably their toughest task of the 2021/22 season in general.

With this said, Gladbach should ease to a victory over the third tier side and get their campaign off to a flyer ahead of hosting champions Bayern five days later for the Bundesliga’s opening weekend.
