New England Revs to Continue Their Hot Streak in the East Against the Red Bulls

The New England Revolution will play hosts to the New York Red Bulls this weekend as the Revs look to continue their march towards the playoffs and the Eastern Conference title in 2021.

The Massachusetts-based side have had an exceptional last 12 months after climbing into the playoffs in 2020 and now marching towards the title in the Eastern table as they sit as the league leaders for another week.

In truth, nobody in the East has come close to the Revs in 2021, and with just three defeats and three losses from 16 games, only the relentless Seattle Sounders are topping them in the overall MLS standings this campaign.

The Revs have also bagged an almighty amount of goals so far and on the defensive front, remained a little topsy-turvy with 19 let in from 16 games.

However, with 30 goals scored from the same amount of fixtures, they are the top scorers in the entire MLS and only Sporting Kansas City come close to them with their 28 scored so far.

As for the Red Bulls, it's been an incredibly disappointing season for them so far and unless things change rapidly, they are in with a serious chance of missing out on the playoffs in 2021.

Ahead of the trip to Massachusetts, the New York Red Bulls outfit sit in ninth, just outside of the playoff spots and with only five wins from 14 games, a change in form is quickly needed.

To find the start of this winning streak against the Revs, however, seems unlikely. The Red Bulls have won just once in their past six games, which came against Orlando City in an impressive victory over the excellent Florida-based side, who themselves are fighting with the Revs at the top.

On the other hand, Gerhard Struber's men have only managed this sole win on the road this season, and just three weeks ago, the Revs further established their dominance over them with a 3-2 win in what was a carbon copy of this clash.

The Red Bulls did put up a fight, however, with Patryk Kilmala and Andres Reyes almost salvaging a point for the club from 3-0 down, as Tajon Buchanan, Dejuan Jones and Gustavo Bou all scored for the Revs in a fabulous first half performance.

With this all in mind, we don’t see how the league leaders don’t reign supreme here. The club are in fabulous form, have already triumphed over the New York side and with their eyes on Eastern Conference gold, this year seems like their time.
