The Ligue 2 season kicks off this weekend with massive slate of fixtures. On Saturday, Toulouse and Ajaccio will meet at the Stadium TFC with both sides looking to get off on the right foot.
Toulouse just missed out on promotion to Ligue 1 last season. The Les Violets finished third in Ligue 2 last season and qualified for the promotion playoffs against Nantes.

After Toulouse lost the first leg 2-1, they won 1-0 in the second leg. Nantes retained their Ligue 1 status thanks to the away goals rule.
Ajaccio didn’t have the same success in 2020-21 as Toulouse. The Bears finished the season in 13th place and winless in their last five matches. Ajaccio collected 46 points from 38 matches during the Ligue 2 season.
Toulouse posted a home record of 13W-4D-2L. They scored 44 goals and conceded 18 times at the Stadium TFC last term.
Ajaccio’s away form was poor in 2020-21. They won just three times on the road last term and took just 16 points from 19 road games.
Toulouse go into the new campaign with a fresh head coach, Philippe Montanier. He signed a contract for two seasons. Montanier was named best coach of Liga in 2013 while at Real Sociedad
A season later, he was a finalist in the Coupe de France with Rennes. Montanier more recently managed Lens and Standard de Liege.
Toulouse brought in Ado Onaiwu, Mikkel Desler, and Dejaegere this season. They also have a number of loan returnees who could play a big part for the side. Unfortunately, Toulouse sold highly talented player Kelvin Amian to Spezia for €3.5 million.
Olivier Pantaloni will lead Ajaccio into the season. He will aim for a better performance overall than last term. Pantaloni is just two seasons removed from leading Ajaccio to third place in Ligue 2. Last season was made even more of a disappointment due to a third-place finish in 2019-20.
Bevic Moussiti-Oko and Gaetan Courtet were Ajaccio’s co-leaders in goals last term with eight apiece. Neither player was able to score against Toulouse last term. Toulouse won both matches in Ligue 2 versus Ajaccio in 2020-21 by a combined scoreline of 4-0.
Toulouse should replicate their form from last season against Ajaccio. Les Violets should claim a win to nil at home and strengthen perceptions that they will win Ligue 2 this season. Expect over 2.5 goals with Toulouse claiming a win.
