There’s action from the Irish Premier Division on Friday evening which features the clash between Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin with Shamrock Rovers looking to take over at the top of the division with all three points here.

Shamrock Rovers currently sit in 2nd place on the Premier Division ladder but level on points with the current league leaders, St Patrick’s Athletic, but having failed to win their last two matches overall, the hosts will be keen to set the record straight.

An impressive seven-match winning streak earlier in the season from mid-April through to early May had seemingly set Shamrock Rovers on course for a title win but results have dropped off since as the hosts have managed just a further two wins from their subsequent eight games.

Both of these wins were recorded away from home at Longford Town and Waterford, while at home, Shamrock Rovers are without a win from their last four outings, drawing three of these four as they’ve shared the points with Derry City, Finn Harps and Drogheda United.

It’s been a frustrating and ultimately disappointing season in the Irish Premier Division so far for Friday night’s visitors, Dundalk, as they sit mid-table in 6th place and more importantly, 11 points adrift of the top three pack as a result of their inconsistent results to date this term.

Dundalk have won 6, drawn 6 and lost 6 of their 18 matches played so far this campaign but they do bring an improved three-match unbeaten run into this clash at Shamrock Rovers, which includes winning their last two matches on the trot.

Recent wins against Drogheda United and Derry City along with a draw with Longford Town should give the visitors a boost ahead of this trip to Dublin, but they must get a result here in order to have any chance of making up lost ground on the top three clubs in the division.

However, this may be easier said than done as Dundalk have won just three of their last 11 matches on their travels while also losing three of these 11 games as well.

The draw has been the dominant result though with Dundalk being involved in no fewer than five stalemates during this sequence.

The draw therefore looks a distinct possibility here.
