Sunday brings us further action from the Brazilian Serie A with the late morning clash between Palmeiras and Amrica Mineiro at the Allianz Parque ground with Palmeiras seeking to extend their unbeaten run in the domestic top flight to four matches.
An opening day 1-0 defeat away from home against Flamengo wasn’t the best of starts to this new Serie A season for Sunday’s hosts, Palmeiras, but they’ve since responded in positive fashion by putting together a three-match unbeaten run which includes wins against Chapecoense and Juventude in 3-1 and 3-0 victories respectively.
In addition, Palmeiras picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at home with Corinthians and with home advantage behind them at their Allianz Parque, Palmeiras will fancy their chances of picking up another three points in this upcoming encounter.
Palmeiras’s positive start to this new Serie A season is a welcome turnaround in fortunes for the hosts as they ended their last Serie A campaign with just one win out of their final nine matches, but they’ve won two of the last three meetings against America Mineiro and they’ll be keen to make that three victories here.
By contrast, it’s been a poor start to this new Serie A season for Sunday’s visitors, America Mineiro, as they’ve managed to pick up just one point from their opening four matches.
This solitary point came in the shape of a 0-0 stalemate with Cuiaba on Thursday evening but America Mineiro had previously started the season having lost their first three matches on the trot, losing to Athletico PR 1-0, Corinthians 1-0 and a 2-0 loss on the road at Flamengo.
It’s been three years since America Mineiro were last in the Brazilian top flight but their previous campaign ended in relegation after recording just two wins from their final 15 matches of that dismal season.
In addition, America Mineiro have lost nine of their last 12 matches in the Brazilian top flight which includes a heavy 4-0 defeat away from home at Sunday’s hosts, Palmeiras, in their last meeting at Allianz Parque, and with previous history against Palmeiras being particularly poor, this looks like being a long 90 minutes for the visitors here.
All three points for 6th placed Palmeiras could see the hosts jump up into 2nd spot in Serie A.
