Thursday afternoon’s clash in Serie A features the encounter between America Mineiro and Cuaiba at the Estádio Raimundo Sampaio, who have both yet to register their first win of this new Serie A season and both occupy places in the lower reaches of the Brazilian top flight.
It’s been a wretched start to this new Serie A season for America Mineiro who have lost all of their opening three matches of the new term against Athletico PR, Corinthians and Flamengo, and duly find themselves bottom of the Serie A table as a consequence.

America Mineiro have also been bundled out of the Copa do Brasil by Serie C outfit, Criciuma, losing on penalties after the scores finished level at 2-2 after the two legs, while the hosts have failed to win any of their last seven matches overall in all competitions.
The immediate outlook for America Mineiro therefore looks fairly bleak with the host’s best chances of getting something out of this upcoming clash against Cuaiba appearing to be a draw.
America Mineiro have a number of players missing through injury for this encounter with Cuaiba with the likes of forwards, Marcelo Toscano, Luiz Fernando and Leo Passos all missing along with midfielder Ze Ricardo.
Interestingly, the previous meeting between these two sides ended in a 0-0 draw back in November of last season.
Onto Cuiaba, and the visitors haven’t fared much better as they’ve picked up just the one point from their opening two matches in Serie A, courtesy of a 2-2 draw at home with Juventude on the opening day of this new Serie A season.
However, a 1-0 defeat away from home at Fluminense followed and so Cuaiba also find themselves heading into this Thursday evening clash on the back of a defeat which has left them in the lower reaches of Serie A, sitting in 15th place.
This is Cuiaba’s first ever season in the Brazilian top flight and it’ll be imperative to their survival to pick up points against the teams that will be sitting around them in the division, such as America Mineiro, on Thursday.
One thing in Cuiaba’s favour is that manager, Luiz Fernando, has a clean bill of health for his side as they look to walk away from the Estádio Raimundo Sampaio with something to show for their efforts, with a draw looking the most likely outcome here.
