Six points separate Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich and second-place Borussia Dortmund ahead of matchday 20. The Bundesliga is a two-horse title race with Borussia Dortmund the only team with the chance to overtake Bayern for the title.
Meanwhile, the race for third and fourth place is on fire with seven teams fighting for Champions League qualification.
Freiburg host Stuttgart at the SC Stadion on Saturday with the opportunity to move back into the top four. Stuttgart are battling relegation. The Swabians sit in 17th place, but a win at Freiburg could send them out of the relegation zone if results go their way elsewhere.
Christian Streich’s team won just two of their last six games. The team’s recent form has led to them falling out of the Champions League places. The good news for Streich is that Freiburg claimed a 3-2 win against Stuttgart earlier this season. Woo-Yeong Jeong scored twice for Freiburg.
Stuttgart are seeking a first Bundesliga win over Freiburg since 2017-18. That win came at Freiburg, but the team’s last two trips to play the Breisgau-Brasilianer finished without wins. Stuttgart are winless in four straight league games with three of those matches ending in losses.
Bochum are a solid mid-table team in the Bundesliga this season and go into matchday 20 against Koln just eight points off of the top five. Koln are ninth in the league currently. The Billy Goats are just three points off of the Champions League qualification places.
Bochum do not have a great home points total. Just seven of 18 points have been taken by Thomas Reis’s team at home. They have scored a mere five goals while conceding seven times on their own turf.
Koln are coming off of a 4-0 loss to Bayern in the league. The defeat ended a three-match winning streak. Koln’s last four games on the road ended without a loss and their last two games both ended as wins. The Billy Goats bagged a 2-1 win against Bochum earlier this season with a 90th-minute winner.
RB Leipzig are on a good run of form under coach Domenico Tedesco. The ex-Schalke coach has improved RB Leipzig, who are now battling for a Champions League qualification place. Wolfsburg’s great start to the season is a distant memory as the Wolves are now fighting relegation.
Tedesco’s Red Bulls are on a two-match winning streak. They have the league’s third-best home points total with 21 points from 30 points possible. The Red Bulls are +16 in goals at the Red Bull Arena. RB Leipzig fell 1-0 to Wolfsburg away earlier this season, but both teams were very different at the time.
Wolfsburg are winless in 10 straight matches in all competitions. Eight of those winless matches came in the Bundesliga. The Wolves have allowed 30 goals and scored just 17 times, the second-fewest goals in the Bundesliga.
Hertha versus Bayern Munich is the big match of the weekend in the Bundesliga and will take place on Sunday in the capital. Hertha could dent Bayern Munich’s title charge with a win at home. Despite the money spent by Hertha over the last few seasons, they are still a relegation battler.
The Old Lady are winless in back-to-back Bundesliga matches. They are 13th in the Bundesliga with four points separating them from the relegation zone. Hertha have been good at home with five of their last six games finishing without a loss.
Bayern are six points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the league. A loss on matchday 20 could see the Yellow and Black cut into that lead. Bayern lead the league in goals scored with 61 and have been ruthless at times. Bayern put five goals into Hertha’s net in the reverse fixture, winning 5-0.
