Boxing Day has long been one of English football’s biggest traditions, as all of the professional leagues take centre stage. Here, we take a look at the biggest Boxing Day turnarounds.

    Chelsea 4-4 Aston Villa (2007)

The Stamford Bridge faithful were treated to a cracker the day after Christmas in 2007.

Eight goals were split between Chelsea and Aston Villa, but it was the away side who left the happier team, as Chelsea’s hopes of a title took another hit.

This game remains the highest-scoring match in Boxing Day history, as Villa took a 2-0 lead through Shaun Maloney.

Andriy Shevchenko brought the game to 2-2 with a brace within five minutes, as Alex gave Chelsea a lead for the first time.

Laursen brought one back for the Villains before Michael Ballack thought he won the game with a free kick. However, Gareth Barry sealed a point for the club Villa with a 90th-minute finish.

Manchester United 4-3 Newcastle United (2012)

Manchester United’s last title triumph in 2012 is remembered for firstly dethroning Manchester City, but also for the amount of incredible comebacks they had that year.

Under Sir Alex Ferguson, comebacks were a famed feature of United.

On Boxing Day in 2012, United went 1-0 down when James Perch scored after four minutes, as Jonny Evans scored a goal at either end to make it 2-1 to the Magpies.

Newcastle eventually led 3-2 through Papiss Cisse, as Patrice Evra netted for Ferguson's side. Chicarito stole the headlines in the end with a goal in the 90th minute.

    Arsenal 3-1 West Ham (2022)

Although far from the most impressive comeback, it’s no doubt one of the most notable involving Arsenal.

The Gunners went 1-0 down to West Ham United early on in the game and trailed at the break.

It didn't take them long to get going in the second half, however, as Bukayo Saka scored for what was his third consecutive Boxing Day at doing so, while Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal back in front.

Eddie Nketiah capped off the day with a finish with 22 minutes left to go.

Hull City 2-3 Manchester United (2013)

One year on from United’s stunning comeback against Newcastle, they did it again against Hull City.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead through James Chester and David Meyler, but Chris Smalling brought one back fairly soon after.

The game was then brought level at 2-2 with a stunning volley from Wayne Rooney, as the former United captain scored the winner in the second half.
