It is the final day of the Bundesliga season. Everything is still to play for in Germany’s top flight. On Saturday, the league title, European qualification, and relegation places will be decided.
It all goes down to the last day of the campaign.
Augsburg will take their season down to the final day. A win will secure their Bundesliga status for next season. A draw or loss could see them fall into the bottom three. Borussia Monchengladbach are safe going into the final day.
The home team won the last four matches between these clubs. Augsburg claimed a 1-0 win at home earlier in the campaign. Augsburg are 14th in the standings, two points ahead of Bochum. They are on a two-game losing streak.
Borussia Monchengladbach go into the match winless in back-to-back games. They can finish the season no higher than 10th place. Gladbach are a strong home team. The Foals took 30 of 40 points this season at Borussia Park.
Neither Stuttgart nor Hoffenheim are safe from relegation. Stuttgart are 15th in the table, while Hoffenheim are 13th. The Swabians are only outside the bottom three courtesy of goal difference. Hoffenheim are three points clear of the drop and a positive result will keep them in the league.
Hoffenheim won two of their last three Bundesliga matches. The Blues defeated Union Berlin in a shock 4-2 result last weekend to give them a little breathing room going into matchday 34.
Stuttgart are coming off a 4-1 win over Mainz. They are level on points with 16th-place Bochum, but a goal difference of –12 is better than VFL’s -35. Stuttgart are unbeaten in five of their last six games.
Bochum must win and hope Stuttgart do not win on Saturday to stay in the league. They will face a Bayer Leverkusen team that is winless in four straight matches. Leverkusen look like they are on holiday already after losing the Europa League semifinal to Roma.
Bayer Leverkusen won the reverse fixture 2-0. The Company XI are unbeaten in four straight matches versus Bochum. Bayer need a win to ensure they finish in the top six and qualify for the Europa League.
Bochum are unbeaten in back-to-back Bundesliga games. Their awful goal difference could result in finishing in the relegation-playoff place. Schalke are in 17th place and can still overtake Bochum. Schalke will play RB Leipzig.
Wolfsburg smashed Hertha Berlin 5-0 in their previous meeting this season. The Wolves go into the final matchday needing a win to finish in the top six. They will also need Leverkusen to fail to defeat Bochum. Hertha were relegated a week ago, ending an awful season in the capital.
Wolfsburg took 10 points from the last six games. However, the Wolves lost a week ago to Freiburg 2-0. It was Wolfsburg’s second loss in three games.
Hertha will have no pressure on matchday 34. The team will compete in Bundesliga 2 next term. Just four points were taken by Hertha Berlin in the last six games. Hertha are in the bottom three for goals scored with 40. They are in the top three in goals conceded with 68.
