On Thursday, Mauricio Pochettino’s team defeated Manchester United 4-3 in a chaotic match at Stamford Bridge.
After giving up a two-goal lead, Chelsea found themselves trailing 3-2. However, two goals from Cole Palmer in stoppage-time gave Chelsea a dramatic win. Palmer scored three times in the fixture.
Palmer is tied for second in the Premier League Golden Boot race with 16 goals. He has accounted for 30% of Chelsea’s scoring this season. Of all Chelsea’s expensive transfers, Palmer is the most successful one to this point.
Sheffield United are coming off a 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday night. The scoreline flattered Liverpool to some extent. The match went into the final 15 minutes tied at 1-1 before Liverpool found another gear.
The Blades are bottom of the Premier League with 15 points. Ten points separate them from safety with seven games to play. Sheffield United are likely to be relegated at the end of this season.
Chris Wilder’s team took a mere two points from their last six games. No team has conceded more goals than Sheffield United’s 80. The Blades have also scored the fewest goals in the league (28).
The Blues cruised to a 2-0 win against Sheffield United earlier this season. Palmer scored before Nicolas Jackson added a second to give the Blues the win. Both Chelsea goals came in the second half.
Wilder has several players on the injury list ahead of the fixture with Chelsea. Max Lowe, Chris Basham, John Egan, Tom Davies, and George Baldock are all ruled out with injuries. Rhian Brewster and Daniel Jebbison are both set to miss the game, too.
Pochettino continues to have a long list of injured players at Chelsea. Reece James will sit out once more with a thigh injury.
Joining him will be Christoph Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, and Levi Colwill. All four are ruled out with injuries of their own.
