Everton fans have had to endure major mediocrity in the last three decades. The Merseysider’s have for far too long underachieved for the club's history and tradition.
In recent years they have spent big in the transfer market and they are no closer to breaking back into the Premier League’s top-six, which is their imminent target.

The Toffees headed into the current transfer window needing to strengthen several positions. One of those areas that was desperately in need of improvement was the midfield. Last season, their midfield was non-existent.
Everton’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has been majorly backed by the club's hierarchy, as they have brought in the midfield trio of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The signing of Rodriguez is no doubt the most high-profile. The former Real Madrid star is a major name in the international game, who has struggled for game time in the Spanish capital. The 29-year-old Colombian international will get his chance to prove he still has the quality to play regularly on a big stage.
While Rodriguez is the biggest name signing, Allan and Doucoure could be just as important on the pitch for the Toffees. Last season Everton’s midfield was at times overrun, which is why the pair could be such important signings.
Brazilian international Allan loves a tackle, while Doucoure is adept at moving with the ball at a great speed. The perceived two main qualities of the pair are things that Everton have badly been missing from their central midfielders since the exit of Idrissa Gueye to PSG last summer.
The trio of signings has the potential to completely transform Everton’s team. The Toffees had a good forward partnership with Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin last season.

Both the forward pair and the defence could benefit from the recent signings. They could prove to be the key to a more successful future for the long underachieving Merseysider’s.
