When Everton appointed Italian head coach Carlo Ancelotti in November of last year it was a massive coup for the Merseysider’s. The iconic boss arrived to replace the inconsistent Marco Silva in the Toffees dugout.
However, the Italian’s appointment could not prevent Everton from finishing a disappointing 12th place in the Premier League table. In all fairness to the former Napoli boss, he inherited a mediocre squad of players.

Everton were unlikely to see a major difference in results until he had a full transfer window to bring in players.
It seems that the Merseysider’s are close to completing their first signings of the window, with Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez and Brazilian counterpart Allan reportedly set for medicals in England on Wednesday.
The pair would be an unbelievable upgrade to the players currently occupying the Everton midfield. Both are highly-rated players, who have played at the biggest level of the game both at club and international level. The likelihood of the pair joining the Toffees without Ancelotti at the helm was very small, as they could not offer European football this season.
The veteran bosses presence alone is an attraction. Ancelotti has worked with both of the potential new signings at previous clubs. Rodriguez, in particular, seems to have great affection for the former Chelsea boss.
He is the coach that seemed to get the best out of the mercurial star at Real Madrid.
The signings show the sort of effect a big-name and iconic head coach can have on a club. The Italian was brought in to bring success on the pitch. He has not yet been had a fair amount of time to achieve that objective.
However, with the quality of his playing staff improving this summer, Everton should be in a far more positive position come the end of the season.
