The 2020/21 English Premier League will begin on the 12th of September and it is sure to be another exciting season. One of the many subplots to the title race is the top goal scorer and there are several leading contenders ahead of the new campaign.

Jamie Vardy won the Premier League Golden Boot for the first time in his career last season despite a disappointing end to the league for his club Leicester City.

Vardy will begin the 2020/21 at 33 years of age yet seems to have the pace of a man of younger years. Last season was the third time the Englishman has scored 20 goals or more in a Premier League season and he will be looking for more of the same in the upcoming campaign.

However, the bookmakers do not fancy his chances and the man leading the way in the betting odds for Premier League top goal scorer is Mohamed Salah.

The Egypt international scored 19 goals last season, which is the lowest total he has recorded since joining Liverpool. Nonetheless, over the course of the last three Premier League seasons, Salah has scored a combined total of 73 goals, at an average of 24.3 goals per season. Were Salah to hit that average this season, the Liverpool forward will be hard to stop.

Despite suffering an injury hit campaign with Tottenham Hotspur, Harry Kane managed to find the back of the net 18 times during the 201920 Premier League season. However, it was the second season in succession that the England international has failed to go beyond 20 goals. If he can stay fit for the whole campaign, there is no doubt Kane will be among the top goal scorers this season but there are sure to be huge demands on the player, especially with the Europa League and England internationals.

At the time of writing, we are still waiting to hear about the future of Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The former Borussia Dortmund man struck 22 goals in the Premier League last season, exactly the same total as the previous campaign. The Gunners appear to be going places under the guidance of Mikel Arteta and Aubameyang scored a tremendous goal in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool. Should Aubameyang decide to stay at Arsenal, he has a great chance of finishing the 2020/21 Premier League season as top goal scorer.

A glance at the odds shows Danny Ings as a big outsider to win the Premier League Golden Boot yet he finished level on 22 goals with Aubameyang last season. Much will depend on the form of Southampton but if they can start the season strongly, Ings would make a great bet to be the top goal scorer in the Premier League.

Other names to consider include Sadio Mane, Anthony Martial, Timo Werner, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, and Marcus Rashford. These are all players who are capable of striking 20 goals in a season but much will depend on team selection and fitness.
