According to the Daily Star, Premier League pair Chelsea and Tottenham are eying swoops for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope in the next transfer window.

The 28-year-old has thrived this season for the Clarets. In fact, no Premier League goalkeeper has more clean sheets than the Burnley stopper’s 11 this season. The former Charlton star has also created two key chances for his teammates too, which slightly disproves the idea that his distribution is poor.

The interest from more high-profile clubs is no surprise considering the above statistics. However, it is his primary ability to keep the ball out of the net that is interesting the two clubs from the English capital.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled to convince since arriving at Stamford Bridge for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper back in the summer of 2018. He was recently dropped from the first-team after some poor displays, with Willy Caballero temporarily replacing the 25-year-old.

However, he returned to the Blues starting eleven and produced a particularly notably performance against Liverpool.

Tottenham may well be looking at Pope as a replacement for ageing France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The former Lyon goalkeeper has also made some high-profile mistakes in the last 12 months.

Pope is just about to enter his prime as a goalkeeper. Although he may not have the mega experience of Lloris or the profile of Kepa, he would certainly be a solid signing for either team.

He is the sort of no-nonsense goalkeeper that would thrive in most teams. The Clarets star may not be the best goalkeeper in the league with his feet, which would be a requirement in playing for Chelsea. However, if he adapted and improved this facet of his game as he has done this season, then he may well be the sort of goalkeeper that would be perfect for the Blues.
