Next up in our season review to date for the Championship is a look at three midfielders who have made a significant impact at some of the perhaps less fashionable clubs in the second tier, but whose contribution has nevertheless been outstanding.

Firstly, we take a look at Eberechi Eze (QPR) who at the tender age of 21, has an extremely bright future ahead of him.

He not only leads the Man of the Match league table with 9 awards, but has scored 12 goals and also provided a total of 8 assists so far this season.

Four of Eze’s 8 assists have resulted in goals for QPR striker, Nakhi Wells, and although QPR currently sit in a disappointing mid-table position of 13th in the Championship, the entertainment has been in plentiful supply as The R’s are the league’s highest goalscorers at home in the division at Loftus Road.

Next, we focus on the exploits of Jon Swift (Reading) who has been instrumental in Reading’s revival under manager, Mark Bowen, by making a significant contribution both in front of goal and providing assists for others.

Swift is the third highest assist provider in the Championship with 10 to his name along with scoring 5 goals himself, possesses a pass percentage of 82% and has collected 7 Man of the Match awards as he has helped steer the Berkshire outfit away from the relegation battle below them and into a respectable league position of 14th place.

Last but not least, we look at Jed Wallace (Millwall) who has helped fire The Lions back up the Championship league table to 8th place with Gary Rowett’s side now on the fringes of the play-off pack and just 2 points adrift of 6th placed Preston North End prior to the Championship’s enforced hiatus.

Although the combative midfielder has 7 yellow cards and 1 red card to his name so far this term, there’s more to Wallace’s game than just robust challenges as he has produced 9 assists and has popped up with 10 goals so far this season for the London club.

Through his whole-hearted approach for Millwall, Wallace has earned a total of 6 Man of the Match awards to date which has contributed to his side losing just 1 of their last 6 matches overall.
