Tottenham will have to deal with yet another injury to an attacking player after the news broke that January signing Steven Bergwijn is likely to miss the rest of the season due to injury.

The Dutch winger has made a bright start to his career in north London after a £27million switch from PSV Eindhoven in the winter transfer window. The 22-year-old had at times been playing as the main striker, as Spurs are already without the attacking talents of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

While the former is ahead of schedule in his recovery, Spurs will not want to rush him back into the team and aggravate a hamstring injury picked up on New Years Day against Southampton. However, it looks like Kane will return before the end of the season.

The injuries to Bergwijn, Son and Kane have left Tottenham badly short of attacking options. The team from north London have dropped down the Premier League table to eighth-place, four points outside the top-five, which would be enough to claim a spot in the Champions League next season.

They also have the small matter of the Champions League last-16 second leg against RB Leipzig this evening. Jose Mourinho’s team are already 1-0 down from the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It will be a big task progressing to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The fact that Leipzig’s form has been unconvincing of late will likely help the team from north London. However, with three of their best attacking players on the sidelines due to injury, it is hard to see where the goals are going to come from for Spurs for the rest of the season.

Tottenham have suffered terrible luck with injuries and they could well prove fatal to their hopes of landing a Champions League spot or a place in the last eight of the same competition this season.
